Australian Rules Football
Footy. Yes? No? Maybe? An infidel's journey to the heartland.
I used to like Australian Rules Football (Aussie Rules Footy) but now I don't. By not liking the game or having a favourite team, I was able to record elements of a grand final event at Collingwood's Victoria Park home ground with dispassion.
Fans will know which match this was. Others won't care. People who hate footy may still find beauty in these images.
At the end of this lens, you'll discover a situation of extraordinary irony that this fascinating field trip occasioned.
On my way, passing Victoria Park Station.
A poignant scene of past pleasures.
Even inside the ground, business is thin.
How can one eat, at a time like this?
The tension mounts.
The ecstatic release of a timely goal!
If this board could talk...
The great leveller.
A fan kindly strikes his best pose.
Fans take their allegiance seriously.
Pure mateship in the wintry sunshine.
Is this where Leonardo got his inspiration?
Alas! The game is lost.
And now, the extaordinary irony!
Life imitates art!
That's me in the centre, holding the stubbie of beer! I spotted a photographer from the newspaper and felt I should strike a suitably mournful pose. This shot appeared the next day! Was I wrong to do such a thing, or is it wildly funny? Tell me what you think below.
