These varied shots showcase the range and power of the fabulous new Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7 (also known as TZ10).

This striking scene arrested me as I wandered near Seminyak in Bali.

The suggestion of a leader, backed by three cohorts, is mildly unsettling.

A bit 'Planet of the Apes' (original version) maybe.

I certainly didn't see any crows!

I also find the background jungle a bit menacing, but that's probably because I'm a city boy.

Note the rich shadows in the blue shirt.

The rice is lovely.

Winter.

A long, active life - lived to good purpose.

A dipping sun gilds fragile bones.

Awkwardly set, but clinging yet.

To this worldly thread.

Brave. Upright.

An iron will holds failing parts.

With fixed stare that daren't fall.

To the creeping gloom.

I love the illusion of scale, but this scene was way smarter than I.

While I worried about the gum leaf on the distant succulent, a much bigger leaf lay in the bottom left corner.

And as I wondered if the bark could pass for a log, my two Jack Russell Terriers brought an entirely new scale to the equation.

Sometimes it’s better to be a conduit than a pool.

This photo tells me that a subject needn’t be big to be interesting.

I actually sense a lot of drama from these figures.

I snapped the scene in a second, after spotting it on a walk.

I didn’t touch a thing.

When I got home, the picture revealed itself in stages. Details I’d not noticed came to the fore.

I love the glimpses of picket, porch and front door: the touchstones of home.

The letterbox label is a riot. Who made it, and why?

Finally, the tiny figure in the distance suggests we’re seeing just a small part of a much larger picture.

Who knows what struggles go on behind the blinds?!

This photo sure snuck up on me after the fact.

I took it for a lark, only to find a raft of contrasts when I got home.

An empty pool. A sunny winter's day. A faceless self-portrait.

Light and shade. Grass and concrete. Man and nature.

A son in his father's home.

Here’s a security door with the lot!

Yet rust - that slow, silent fire – has been working the hinges and seams.

I’m fascinated by detritus and decay.

This door fairly screamed to be studied the first time I passed it 12 years ago.

Now we have.

Imagine what’s behind it!

Could this matchbox be any more dilapidated?!

The colour’s gone. The scratch plate’s scarred. The cardboard’s collapsing.

The edges are frayed. The matches are burnt.

The grass looks like it can’t wait for a decent rain shower to finish the job.

This tiny tragedy was the first thing I saw yesterday.

Buoyed by highly supportive comments, I went hunting in bad weather.

I got other shots, but this was the standout.

I hope it lights your fire.

It seems no canvas is beyond nature’s grasp.

As we toil behind barred door and sightless window, life tackles the true business to hand.

A soft embrace with steely intent.

A masterpiece on the make.

Complete with paint flecks.

I captured this in a bar in High Street, Prahran, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

I don’t recall the name of the bar, but it was on the east side of the street and, from memory, not too far from the town hall.

I was impressed at how the bar owner gave the whole wall to the artist (whose name, I think, is Deb).

The colours are vibrant and warm.

And the lighting is absolutely spot on.

It was a real feature and I admired it for some time before snapping this shot.

I shall continue to hunt for more examples of this fine work.
