Photos of Green
Photographs of Green Things
I'm greatly attracted to green things. How about you?
Buoyed by kind comments from readers of my other photo lenses, I'm tabling all my green shots.
Here they are, for your utility and pleasure. Check back often, as this verdant collection is sure to grow!
The Green Man - Go Man! Go!
I don't know why this symbol can't be androgynous. That said, I do like this 'tunnel' to a tiny, dusty micro world that few visit. Can you see me in the reflection?
Green Machine - I think these neighbours prefer to walk.
I know I'm going a bit heavy on ivy shots, but it's hard to resist a juxtposition like this. I hope you don't mind.
Gutter Snipe - Some of us are looking at the stars ...
I love taking shots in late afternoon light. And I'm a big fan of nature triumphing over humanity. This plucky future gum tree has wrested a foothold in the cracked gutter of a seldom used road. And judging by the sun streaming through its leaves, it has chosen jolly well!
Barley Dog - The most loyal companion.
It's a joy to go for a long wander with my camera and doggies. They love it, because they have oodles of time to faff around (unlike on my power walks). I love it because I'm never short of company. In fact, when composing a shot, I often have to shoo them away. On this occasion, however, the image in my viewfinder was so endearing I just had to keep it. My dear old loyal doggie! BTW, I don't know if that grass is barley or not. But it sure looks like how I imagine barley should.
Cutting Corners - Turning over a new leaf.
I like this creeper a lot. You may recall I snapped it in autumn, when it was at its most glorious. (Click the pic to see that shot.) It's nice to see a change of mood in late spring. Guess I'd better come back in summer and winter too.
Green Room - I thought I'd try photographing something other than plants.
But I'm not sure this subject is terribly exciting. What say you?
Green Salad - Chomp chomp chomp chomp!
Chomp chomp chomp chomp chomp chomp chomp chomp ...
Hanging Gardens - A swinging time.
My third attempt to capture this grass. The slightest breeze sets these delicate parts swinging like mad. The shot isn't perfect, but I'm getting there.
Ringing Endorsement - Who says playgrounds are just for kids?!
I grabbed these rings, but didn't swing. Looking at the shadows now, I wonder if you could make a sundial of this structure. That way, it'd always be ... playtime!
Bronze Age - Do you suffer from verdigris?
Call me weird, but I'm more fascinated by the deterioration of these materials than the message they hold. Right down to how corrosion is attacking the abraded letter edges. Note the green patina bleeding to the stones below.
Holding The Line - A photo poem.
Winter.
A long, active life - lived to good purpose.
The proof in scars.
A dipping sun gilds fragile bones.
Awkwardly set, but clinging yet.
To this worldly thread.
Brave. Upright.
An iron will holds failing parts.
With fixed stare that daren’t fall.
To the creeping gloom.
All these shots were taken on THIS camera!
Pole Power - An energetic performance.
This enterprising creeper impresses the pants off me. Every year the council workers slash it to bits, and every year it grows back. Some years, it almost makes it to the railway line power cables. Nice one, Nature!
Pine The Sky - Feeling needled? Don't bristle!
Pine trees. They look good. Smell good. Sound good. Feel good. Wonder what they taste like ...
Green Energy - The 'other' type of mill.
I went for this shot because of the pond weed. Little did I suspect the green sheen on the wood and wall. A nice surprise. I find this photo sad. But I can't just photograph grass forever!
Mowed Down - Your grass is MINE!
I shot this from many angles without success. Then I had the idea of using the grass' perspective. Though this machine hasn't seen action for a while (note the bird poo) it still has presence.
Quick Quiz (like REALLY quick)
Is green your favourite colour (color)?
Fresh Air - The grass is dancing!
Nothing brings grass to life like a good breeze. Though this is merely a still, I hope you can sense the energy present in what was a wonderful scene.
Sun Lover - Feel it in your veins!
What a celebration of light and life! Check the exquisite details. And the shadows. And the pure energy coursing through these leaves. Great stuff!
Green with Ivy - Knock! Knock!
I don't think anyone's home.
Land of Lorax - Does this look Seusy to you?
When you get down to it, grass can look pretty zany. I love this loopy, mossy netherworld!
In the Pink - Sometimes you need contrast ...
I think the pink makes the green more green. This fresh, dew-spangled clover was a delight to capture. Such a pleasing image from what could be considered a prosaic subject.
How Green Was My Doggie - Essential background reading!
I love the illusion of scale, but this scene was way smarter than I. While I worried about the gum leaf on the distant succulent, a much bigger leaf lay in the bottom left corner.
And as I wondered if the bark could pass for a log, my two Jack Russell Terriers brought an entirely new scale to the equation. Sometimes it’s better to be a conduit than a pool.
